Just A Sewing & Creative Friendly Blog

If you read my blog, it's obvious I consider myself a
patriotic American.  I keep my political opinions
to myself, after all this is a simple "sew" friendly blog.
If I feel the need, I just email my senators or
representatives.  I vote, so I have the right and
responsibility to let them know how I feel about
the job they are doing.

Missouri senators are:

Claire McCaskill--Democrat
&
Roy Blunt--Republican

My first email this week to both of them, was to express my
shame and embarrassment as an American, that
the death benefits to fallen soldiers has been denied.

(That got fixed today, but still, I am shamed, this
should never have been a cut in funding to begin with!)
Special Agent Joseph M. Peters (U.S. Army Special Operations Command)

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - The U.S. Army says a Springfield man was one of four soldiers killed in an attack in Afghanistan.
The Army announced Tuesday that 24-year-old Special Agent Joseph M. Peters and the three other soldiers died Sunday in Kandahar Province when their unit was hit by an improvised explosive device.
Peters was assigned to the 5th Military Police Battalion from Vicenza, Italy. He was a special agent assigned to the 286th Military Police Detachment.
He served two deployments in Iraq before being assigned to Afghanistan.
Peters is survived by a wife and 20-month-old son.

When I went to Claire McCaskill's official website, this is what I saw.

In the absence of FY 2014 appropriations or a
continuing budget resolution for the Legislative
Branch, Senator McCaskill's office has been
forced to close effective October 1, 2013. The
office will reopen when a continuing budget
resolution is approved. Senator McCaskill is
disappointed with the shutdown of government
operations and the inconvenience to Missourians
and will continue to work to fund the government
as quickly as possible.

This is what I saw when I went to Roy Blunt's official website.

Call On DoD To Restore Vital Assistance To Military Families Who’ve Lost Loved Ones In Combat

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) joined a bipartisan group of his colleagues in sending a letter to U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secretary Chuck Hagel today urging him to provide immediate death gratuity payments to military families during the government shutdown. » Read

Glad to know you are still working for Missourians!!

This was my second email this week to them both.

Gee, just got a letter from Assurant Health, my private health insurance. I pay $365.25 a month for my personal health insurance. On December 1st, 2014 my policy will not meet the requirements for Obamacare. I will be forced to purchase a new policy with additional health coverage to include "MATERNITY" and "PEDIATRIC VISION & DENTAL" to qualify, or face a fine. I am 61 years old, I haven't had a uterus for 21 years!  Why on earth should I be forced to pay for that kind of health coverage?  I am reminded of a quote by Mark Twain........"It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress."
- Pudd'nhead Wilson

This was my immediate response from Claire McCaskill for both emails...............

In the absence of FY 2014 appropriations or a continuing budget resolution for the Legislative Branch, Senator McCaskill's office has been forced to close effective October 1, 2013. The office will reopen when a continuing budget resolution is approved. Senator McCaskill is disappointed with the shutdown of government operations and the inconvenience to Missourians and will continue to work to fund the government as quickly as possible.

Haven't heard from Roy Blunt yet, I guess he's been busy working.
Hats off to Roy Blunt!!!!!

  1. Maternity and Pediatric? Holy foul play, Batman. We don't have the kind of issue you're having, since Phil is retired military and we have those benefits. But we were informed that his VA disability payments will end as of Nov. 1st if the stalemate isn't solved.

  3. I don't understand how all those men who are supposed to be smart and have the best interest of americans can work in Washington all year long, knowing what has to be done and there are deadlines to meet and still not be able to do a good job, and not get America's business tended to. I told my husband that there have to be some people in Washington who aren't there to make a ton of money, or power hungry who are smart and really care about a good government, but I'm not seeing it. Some of those men stay in power way to long, and I think that is part of the problem. I hope they can get back on track, but it's not comforting to have to just hope things will be alright and know that these crisis situations are going to keep popping up. Where did common sense go in America?
